DO IT IN THE KITCHEN By Nisha JamVwal

Kitchen Design Innovative Ideas
By Nisha JamVwal

They say 'cook to work off stress'. Going by this saying I'd say let's design kitchens which are so convenient - everything at hand, easily accessible, easy to find - that the experience of cooking can be a soothing, calming journey, away from the angst of city life.

Camouflaged Appliances

To maintain the ambiance of serenity without interfering with appliance use, camouflage bulky appliances. Stow small appliances out of view, but within easy reach.

Add electrical outlets and mount the appliances so you can use them right where you hide them - an important consideration in that case should be ventilation to prevent overheating.

SHUTTER TREATMENTS
Use louvers, fluted shutters - weave the ventilation into the design. You could panel the refrigerator, and use a tambour door that would rolls down to hide the microwave oven when it’s not in use.

SMART SHELVING
Have you ever seen corner swing-out shelves? They look so chic and are the ultimate in efficiency. You could use these for oft-required jam jars and coffee canisters. Nothing looks worse than a kitchen cluttered with bottles and pans.

INNOVATIVE DESIGN

Nirja Shah (television producer) has treated her kitchen shutters uniquely to prevent the area from looking boxy, and to enhance the eclectic look her house already wears. She has had an eminent artist paint the items that lie within, onto the shutters.
For example a shutter with utensils has a pressure cooker and pans painted on - so new staff in the house, or guests, don’t have to open everything to check where what lies.
The entire shutter panel looks like a large painting - positively dramatic.
Glass with cross-moulding in a French style looks very charmingly country. If you use semi-frosted glass it allows you to see at a glance what you have inside.
